Two lecturers at University of Wales College, Newport have fought off job cuts because of a rise in student numbers. Some 44 academic job cuts had been planned to help cut a projected Pounds 2.4 million deficit. But the lecturers' appeals were upheld in the Newport School of Art and Design because recruitment had been better than expected.
