ROYAL COLLEGE OF ARTS

Deanna Petherbridge, an artist who writes on art, architecture and drawing, has been appointed professor of drawing from September 1995. Deanna Petherbridge has held sessional lectureships at the Architectural Association, Reading University and the Kent Institute of Art and Design.

UNIVERSITY OF PLYMOUTH

Peter Stockwell, managing director and founder of P. S. Analytical Ltd has been appointed visiting professor in the analytical chemistry unit.

QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY OF BELFAST

Kumaraswamy Velupillai, former associate director of the Center for Computable Economics at University College of Los Angeles and consultant at the International Economics and Socio-Economic Data Division at the World Bank has been appointed to a chair in economics; Eithne McLaughlin, previously a reader, has been appointed to a chair in social policy; the title of honorary professor has been conferred on M. J. Green, currently research manager at BP's Chemical Laboratory.

The following have been awarded chairs: Michael Bridger, principal lecturer in the school of music and electronic arts; George Chadwick, previously visiting professor and regional head in Malaysia; John Lea, reader in sociology and social work.
