JOB DESCRIPTION:

Overview: As the Head of Department, you will lead and inspire a diverse team of scholars, researchers, and educators in the field of Chinese Studies. You will be responsible for the department’s academic, research, and administrative functions while fostering a collaborative and dynamic environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide academic leadership and direction to the Department of Chinese Studies.

Provide support to the faculty members to achieve the aims and learning outcomes for the department.

Ensure the programme(s) adheres to the University's teaching and learning strategy and associated policies, practices and processes are implemented.

Ensure the programme(s) comply with auditing, quality assurance and risk management procedures both internal and external.

Act as point of contact and ensure effective liaison with other departments for all matters relating to the delivery of the programme(s).

Support for continuing professional development of staff.

Maintain relationships with external bodies, alumni and industry as appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS:

A Ph.D. in Chinese Studies or a related field.

Proven track record of excellence in teaching, research, and academic leadership. Substantial experience in academic administration and strategic planning.

Strong publication record in reputable journals and evidence of impactful research. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Ability to foster an inclusive and collaborative academic environment.

A global perspective and understanding of the evolving landscape of Chinese Studies.

About the opportunity

The University's Property Portfolio consists of over 250 freehold and over 20 leasehold properties across its campuses, farms, student accommodation and other sites. The role of the Assistant Property Manager is to be the first point of contact for the Property Management team, to coordinate and undertake a range of operational activities including supporting the preparing of leases and licenses, debtor management, administering leasing documentation and maintaining records, managing University's Nomos One Property Management database system, responding to landlord and tenant queries, exploring matters, and sourcing solutions, market research, developing relationships with local landlords and attendance at property inspections for the Property and Development Team.

Working closely with the Property Manager, your key responsibilities will be to:


	provide proactive and timely operational support to the Property Management Team
	support the Property Manager with lease and license management on the Nomos One Property Management system
	build relationships and manage good communication with internal and external stakeholders
	maintain records, and provide finance/accounting support and reporting for the Property team
	provide high level support for the wider Property & Development Team, including assisting with all aspects of Contract Management, including contract documents and financial contract management in line with University Policy and Procedures
	coordinate and attend require property inspections, including audits of tenancies etc.


About you


	demonstrated experience in commercial property management and lease/licence administration
	well-developed negotiation, conflict resolution, relationship building and influencing skills
	excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in handling a wide range of enquiries and providing excellent customer service
	sound Office 365 skills and working knowledge of software programs such as Hyperion Reporting System, Peoplesoft, UniBuy, Concur, Records Management, and content learning and engagement management systems
	strong problem solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload tasks
	numeracy skills together with experience in controlling income/expenditure for reconciliation/budget tracking and managing invoice payments and purchases.

If you are interested in applied quantum chemistry with a focus on heavy element compounds, this is an ideal opportunity for you.

The Marek lab has access to state-of-the-art computational tools and cutting-edge NMR instruments at our local core facility, which are available for regular use. Our lab has secured third-party funding, so we are well equipped to support your research.

We are seeking a creative, independent, and motivated colleague with relevant experience in fields such as computational, theoretical or physical chemistry or chemical physics. Candidates with expertise in DFT or theoretical spectroscopy are particularly encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate profile:

	MSc or equivalent degree (preferably in Physical Sciences)
	Strong interest in electronic structure and quantum chemistry
	Hands-on experience with computational quantum chemistry is a strong plus as well as programming skills

Your future tasks:

The primary duty of this position is to foster collaboration between the research network and partners in the real world of data science.
