Chairs

BIRKBECK COLLEGE. Nick Bingham, formerly at Royal Holloway College, has been appointed chair of the statistics department; Nicola Lacey, lecturer and fellow of law at New College, Oxford, has been appointed chair of the law department.

The following titles have been conferred: J. Goodfellow, professor of biomolecular science; B. Hiley, professor of physics; J. Labanyi, professor of modern Spanish literature and cultural studies.

Personal chairs have been awarded to the following: John Fry, former reader in the school of pure and applied biology; Glyn Harman, former reader in the school of mathematics; Richard Lewis, former reader in Cardiff Law School; Malcolm Roberts, former reader in the school of molecular and medical biosciences; Mike Rowe, former reader in the school of engineering; Hywel Thomas, former reader in the school of engineering; Celia Wells, former reader in Cardiff Law School; Huw Williams, former reader in city and regional planning.

Established chairs have been awarded to the following: Tim Jacob, former senior lecturer in the school of molecular and medical biosciences; Paul Blyton, former reader in Cardiff Business School.
