The picture of Lieutenant General George Francis Milne's desk, embellished with artefacts of death and destruction (Odds and Quads, 15 December), made me wonder whether a (slight mis)-quote of the line from the Bhagavad Gita that occurred to J. Robert Oppenheimer after he witnessed the first atom bomb test in 1945 in New Mexico might be appropriate: "Now I am become desk, the destroyer of worlds."
