Tsinghua University president Qiu Yong

In this interview, President of Tsinghua University, Qiu Yong, elaborates on the challenges that have emerged for higher education institutions in 2020.

Professor Qiu notes that these challenges, however, for him, represent a renewal of hope. He believes that as a result of the changes made in the face of these challenges, universities will be able to more easily surpass the limitations that had previously stifled their growth and expansion.

He argues that post-pandemic universities will change predominantly in three ways as universities will be more open and integrative, more student-driven, smarter and more inclusive.

He is optimistic about the future of higher education, particularly the worldwide collaborative efforts aimed at solving global challenges.
