The “Chula ARi” project won the Winner award “THE Awards Asia 2024” in the Research Project of the Year category

Chula ARi, or Chulalongkorn University Platform for Ageing Research Innovation and Thailand Platform for Ageing Research Innovation, developed by the College of Population Studies, Chulalongkorn University, won the Research Project of the Year: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at THE Awards Asia 2024The winners were announced at THE Asia Universities Summit on April 29, 2024, at Sunway University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Asst. Prof. Dr. Soranate Aresophonpichet, Assistant to the President for Strategy, Quality Assurance and World University Rankings, Chulalongkorn University, represented the university in receiving the award.  

“Chula ARi” is Chulalongkorn University’s platform for research innovation aimed at addressing the challenges of an active aging society. The project is funded by the Second Century Fund Chulalongkorn University (C2F). The project consists of faculty, researchers, and students from 13 divisions in Chulalongkorn University, with the College of Population Studies as the coordinating point and the main actor of the project (Prof. Dr. Vipan Prachuabmoh is the Director of the project). It involves 5 mission groups:  

  1. Social Research Group (Asst. Prof. Dr. Rukchanok Karcharnubarn heading the group),  
  2. Economic Research Group (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pataporn Sukontamarn), 
  3. Health Research Group (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jiraporn Kespichayawattana),
  4. Environmental Research Group (Assoc. Prof. Trirat Jarutach),  
  5. Innovation and Technology Research Group (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Solaphat Hemrungrojn). Miss Pranee Whaenthongkam is the project manager.

The key outcomes of the project are:  

  1. Developing a national master plan for an aging society, which is the 3rd National Plan on the Elderly 2023-2037;  
  2. Developing an innovative community database system and raising awareness about an aging society; 
  3. Developing a prototype integrated system to support an aging society in metropolitan communities.   

The success of the Chula ARi project has been expanded into the Thai ARi (Thailand Platform for Aging Research Innovation) research program. The research team from Chula ARi plays a significant role in empowering researchers at regional universities and communities, who can apply lessons from Chula ARi to develop systems to support an aging society in urban areas in other regions of the country. The Thai ARi research program is funded by the National Research Council of Thailand

This year, 2 more projects from the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, made it through the qualifying round of THE Awards Asia 2024, namely the Dynamic Prosthetic Feet (Research Project of the Year: STEM category) and the newly launched Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering and Digital Technology (CEDT) program (Student Recruitment Campaign of the Year category).
