Huazhong University of Science and Technology provides a dynamic environment for high-quality education and groundbreaking research
One of the fastest-growing universities in China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a comprehensive research university under the direct supervision of China’s Ministry of Education. It was one of the first universities to be approved under the country’s Double First-Class initiative, which promotes excellence in higher education.
HUST is located in the rapidly developing city of Wuhan. As a major hub for culture, education, transport and business in central China, Wuhan plays a leading role in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

Over 72 per cent of HUST’s main campus is covered by remarkable green spaces and a rich canopy of trees, earning it the nickname “the university in the forest”. HUST has a satellite medical campus located in the central business district of Hankou across the Yangtze River. Its Junshan campus, located in the Hanyang District, is also known as the International Education and Scientific Innovation campus.
HUST offers academic programmes in a wide range of academic disciplines, with long-standing advantage in engineering, renowned medicine, fast growing sciences as well as distinctive social sciences. HUST offers several English-taught programmes at the postgraduate and undergraduate levels, adding to its reputation as a global academic destination.
As a research-intensive university, HUST is home to 31 major national research centres and science and technology infrastructures, which include five state key laboratories, seven national engineering research centres, six international science and technology cooperation bases established with the support of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology and three international joint laboratories founded with support from the Ministry of Education. Driven by its mission to contribute to social progress, HUST continues to explore the boundaries of scientific innovation.
International cooperation is central to HUST’s development strategy. In 2022, HUST formally launched the Global Strategy 2030 to deliver global impact and provide lasting benefits worldwide.
