About

Basic information and contact details for Athens University of Economics and Business

institution

Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), founded in 1920, is Greece’s third oldest higher education institution.

Most of the university buildings are located in the centre of Athens on Patision Street, a street which also hosts the National Technical University of Athens and the National Archaeological Museum. The Graduate School building and the Research Centre are located nearby, meaning that the hub of Athens University of Economics and Business activity is located is the centre of the capital.

Until 1995, AUEB only offered one degree which was centred around the subject of business and commerce. After years of gradually increasing the number of programs available to students, today there are eight separate departments that teach at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level, with five master’s degree courses taught in English.

Established in 1989, AUEB’s Department of Statistics was the first of its kind in the whole country and today provides both undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses.

AUEB is perhaps best known as a research-focused university. The activities undertaken by its members in the research field are generally either basic theoretical research, which hopes to advance understanding in various fields, or applied research which aims to resolve major issues, often related to the economy or society.

Around 3,000 people start an AUEB degree course each year, and the total number of students has been steadily increasing.

AUEB has a number of international partnerships including relationships with more than 200 universities across the world, allowing AUEB students to study abroad and paving the way for AUEB to establish research and academic projects with international institutions.
