The School of Geography and Environmental Science is ranked third in the UK (REF2021 GPA) with broad research interests spanning Physical Geography, Environmental Science and Human Geography.  Our undergraduate and postgraduate courses are highly rated by our students as evidenced by our overall positivity measure in the NSS2024 ranking first within the Russell Group for both Environmental Science and Human Geography and 6th for Physical Geography.  We encourage a vibrant and inclusive community (Athena Swan Bronze).

The role

The School of Geography & Environmental Science is seeking to appoint up to two Lecturers in Climate and Environmental Change (permanent Level 5 or 6 and 4-year fixed term Level 5).

These appointments will strengthen and complement the school’s existing research, teaching, and impact activities within the interdisciplinary context of landscape dynamics, ecology, environmental change and sustainability. The posts will complement existing School strengths through the addition of research focused around innovative approaches to atmospheric, climate or earth system modelling, palaeoclimate reconstruction, environmental microbial or applied ecology, ecogeomorphology, cryosphere, geohazards, pollution, urban environments, nature-based solutions or sustainable coastal environments.

Teaching activities for this post will be at undergraduate and/or postgraduate-taught (MSc) level, conducted through lectures, tutorials, practical classes, seminars, and/or fieldwork. Teaching responsibilities will involve co-teaching on core programme modules and/or field courses, with scope for developing new, innovative modules in specialist disciplinary areas.

About you

We seek applicants with a PhD (or equivalent professional qualification and/or experience) whose research actively engages disciplinary specialities in Physical Geography and/or Environmental Science. Methodological skills of particular relevance include (but are not limited to) climate, atmospheric or earth system modelling, geospatial analysis of large datasets or molecular analyses.

We especially encourage applicants with either an emerging or established track record of research leadership and a demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary science. Experience with undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching is desirable (Level 5) and essential for Level 6.

What is Knowledge Exchange & Enterprise Board?

Knowledge Exchange & Enterprise Board (KEE Board) is a University committee under the accountability of the Vice-President (Research and Enterprise). Its core responsibilities are to oversee and champion the knowledge exchange, enterprise and innovation agenda across the University, to enhance the University’s strong enterprise ecosystem within a strategic framework. It has responsibility for oversight of the delivery of the KEE Strategic Plan and ensures compatibility with the University’s Strategy with its Triple Helix approach.

KEE Board focuses on quality and sustainability, whilst enabling enterprise activity to contribute to the diversification of income for the University, maximising the impact of its research outputs and maintain the University’s world leading reputation for knowledge exchange and enterprise (KEE).

About the role and You

As a lay member you will have the opportunity to provide your perspective and knowledge in order to help the board steer the enterprise and knowledge exchange activities of the university, ensuring that procedures are rigorous, ethical and sustainable.

We welcome expressions of interest from individuals with a track record of success in their own field.

You will have some understanding of UK Universities, the UK Industrial Strategy and innovation ecosystem development, and direct senior experience of at least one of the following perspectives:


	industry, large corporate and/or SME
	innovation funding, and venture capital investment
	public/non-profit/educational organisation
	local and regional – civic mission and economic development (Southampton/Hampshire & IOW).


It would be useful if you also bring experience of managing/promoting:


	Diversity & Inclusion
	Fundraising
	Governance, Regulatory compliance, legal & risk
	Sustainability


The board meet five times a year with an additional a strategic away day. The meetings are typically hybrid although at least one is held in person and are 2-3hrs duration plus preparation time.

Description

NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for an open-rank, two-year visiting faculty appointment in the NYUAD Philosophy program starting Academic Year 2025-2026. Applicants should have a demonstrated capacity to teach courses in non-Western or other traditionally underrepresented areas of philosophy. The NYUAD Philosophy Program views philosophy as a fully global discipline, and its curriculum strives to integrate the study of contemporary international philosophy with an understanding of philosophy’s rich multicultural history.

Teaching load for the year is four undergraduate courses (typically 2 in Fall, 2 in Spring) plus capstone thesis advising. These courses may include introductory and advanced Philosophy electives, as well as courses in NYUAD’s distinctive Core Curriculum. (All instruction is in English.)

Visiting faculty (if not retired) must be able to obtain a leave of absence and a letter of no objection from their home institution. The NYUAD academic calendar typically starts the last week of August and ends in the last week of May. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the UAE in time for the beginning of the semester.

King’s History department is an internationally-recognised centre for the study of the history of the world. Our undergraduate curriculum introduces students to world history from the early medieval period to the present; it then offers students pathways to study every continent through their second and third years. Our MA provision is similarly broad, developing students’ expertise in medieval, early modern and modern world history. We are an intellectual home for scholars of every region of the world, who use approaches which range from local micro-histories to large-scale quantitative analysis. About The Role

The Department of History seeks to appoint a Lecturer specialising in the History of Science and the Environment, 1800-2000, for one year beginning January 2025. This is to cover a colleague who has been awarded a major research grant. We are looking to recruit a colleague with expertise in any aspect of the field able to teach a range of courses in the history of science and environmental history, and their methods.

You will conduct and publish high quality research in the subject. You will teach a range of undergraduate and, potentially, MA modules in the history of modern science and environmental history.

You will contribute to survey modules, taking seminars of core skills modules and possibly MA teaching. You will assume pastoral and administrative responsibilities, and participate actively in the life and culture of the department. You will participate in and help lead collaborative research activities at King’s, especially in the history department and Environmental Humanities Network. A strong research record, excellent teaching ability, outstanding interpersonal skills and a collaborative ethos are essential for the role.

This is a full time and you will be offered a a fixed term contract until 31 December 2025.

The Philosophy Department at King’s College London is seeking an outstanding philosopher with research expertise and teaching experience in Ethics.

 

The successful candidate will lead or direct their own original and independent programme of research at an international standard. This is a full time, fixed term post (18 months).

 

The Department of Philosophy is one of the largest and most distinguished in the UK. We have particular  research strengths in the history of philosophy, philosophy of mind and psychology, philosophy of language and linguistics, metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of science and ethics and political philosophy.

 

About You

	A PhD in Philosophy or relevant related area awarded, defended, or submitted by time of appointment
	Outstanding research achievement and potential, relative to career stage, for leading their own programme of research in any of the listed areas.
