Description

The Robot Learning & Control laboratory in the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate with a strong expertise in learning-based control for robotics, with a particular focus on ensuring passivity and stability during interactions with humans and/or the environment. This position aims to advance the development of control algorithms that maintain safety, stability, and robustness in robotic systems, while leveraging machine learning alongside differential geometry to enhance adaptability and performance. The research will emphasize the integration of Lyapunov stability, passivity-based control, variable impedance control, and imitation or exploration-based learning, particularly in scenarios involving human interaction and environmental complexities.

The successful applicant will engage in cutting-edge research with the following objectives:

Integration of Machine Learning and Differential Geometry: Develop and refine control algorithms that combine machine learning techniques with differential geometric methods to enhance the adaptability and efficiency of robotic systems in dynamic and unpredictable environments.

Passivity and Stability in Human-Environment Interaction: Focus on creating control strategies that ensure stability, which is crucial for safe and stable operations during human-robot interactions and in complex environmental settings.

Variable Impedance Control: Implement variable impedance control strategies to allow robots to dynamically adjust their stiffness and damping properties, improving interaction safety and efficiency in scenarios that require close human-robot collaboration or precise environmental manipulation.

Imitation and Exploration-Based Learning: Proficiency in applying imitation learning and/or exploration-based learning to optimize control policies, enabling robots to learn from human demonstrations and environmental interactions.

Qualifications:


	Applicants must have a PhD in Robotics, Control Theory, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a     closely related field, with a strong focus on robot control, machine learning, and differential geometry.
	Demonstrated experience in developing advanced control and learning algorithms, particularly in the context of human-robot interaction, in addition to an experience in working with real robotic manipulator.
	A strong publication record in high-impact journals and conferences (e.g., T-RO, IJRR, RA-L, RAS, IROS, ICRA, CDC, etc.), showcasing your expertise.
	Proficiency in programming languages and tools commonly used in robotics, such as C , MATLAB, Python, and ROS.
	Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary research environment.

The mission of the Centre for English and Additional Languages (CEAL) at Lingnan University is to enhance the English language skills of Lingnan students and to provide language support to help students succeed in their academic studies and future careers.  The Centre provides compulsory and elective English courses as well as organising a range of co-curricular language activities. CEAL also offers courses in additional languages such as Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and French.

General Requirements

Lingnan University is looking for a well-qualified language specialist to head the CEAL. Applicants for the position should demonstrate excellence in teaching as well as having a proven record of curriculum/course development, delivery and assessment. Extensive management experience in a university English language centre or similar environment is desirable. S/he will have a PhD in English language (preferably Applied Linguistics) or a related area, a minimum of five years’ administrative experience, ten years of teaching experience in university English, and a track record of research and publication in language learning and teaching. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor of Teaching.

Founded in 1999, the Department (https://www.ln.edu.hk/cultural/) is the forerunner of offering a BA degree in Cultural Studies in Hong Kong. Our Master of Cultural Studies Programme, launched in 2003, gives students from mixed academic and working backgrounds the opportunity to reflect on and devise alternative ways to approach their ongoing practices. Our Research Postgraduate Programmes (MPhil & PhD) train aspiring researchers to develop in-depth inquiry into specific areas of interest. The appointed candidate will be a committed academic with a record of research and scholarship of international stature who will be able to demonstrate commitment to the vision and orientation of the Department and the University. The appointee should demonstrate a track record of quality publications and grants-based research in areas relevant to the department’s profile. Solid experience in administrative leadership would be preferable.

Description

The Division of Science at NYU Abu Dhabi is searching for accomplished visiting faculty in Physics to educate the next generation of global leaders.  Multidisciplinary research and exceptional teaching in a highly diverse and inclusive campus community are hallmarks of the University’s mission.

The visiting position is for one academic year, and the expected teaching load is four courses with relatively small class sizes.

Faculty in the Physics program contribute to the multidisciplinary research at NYU Abu Dhabi and work in fields such as astrophysics, particle physics and biophysics, and have links with faculty from other programs in NYUAD and in the Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics in NYU.
