The Role

Applications are invited for a motivated Postdoctoral Research associate in environmental microbiology and bioinformatics with a particular emphasis on wastewater-based epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the research project "TEXAS- Towards next-generation AMR surveillance: Assessment of novel technologies with high-throughput and multiplexing potential" a Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR). TEXAS aims to develop and validate promising technological platforms that can be readily incorporated into national and international integrated surveillance programs. Therefore, the candidate will work with Dr Marcos Quintela-Baluja and Professor David W. Graham in a global team with institutions from five countries (AU, CAN, ISRL, SA and UK). The successful applicant will be expected to collaborate closely with other TEXAS members to generate and analyse large environmental metagenome collections to understand the co-occurrence and evolution of antimicrobial resistance.

This post is fixed term for 20 months to coincide with the duration of the existing funding. There is the possibility of an extension beyond this period, if additional funding can be secured.

The post-holder is employed to work on research/a research project which will be led by another colleague. Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, through the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols.

Successful applicants will, ideally, be in post by January 2025.

When appointing to this role the University must ensure that it meets any applicable immigration requirements, including salary thresholds which are applicable to some visas.

Essential Criteria:

Qualifications


	A good first degree in a STEM discipline.
	A PhD (or be close to submission) in the study of antimicrobial resistance or a related subject.


Experience


	Experience in conducting high quality academic research.
	Demonstrable ability to write material of a quality commensurate with publication in highly-ranked journals.
	Demonstrable ability to present research papers at national and international conferences and communicate complex information to specialists and within the wider academic community.
	Experience in nucleic acids extraction, PCR-related techniques (qPCR, HT-qPCR), and data analysis using HPC (R and Unix languages required).


Skills


	Demonstrable ability to work cooperatively as part of a team, including participating in research meetings.
	Ability to work independently on own initiative and to strict deadlines.
	Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


Desirable Criteria

Experience


	Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with stage of career.
	A track record of presenting research at conferences, symposia, or meetings, commensurate with stage of career.
	Demonstrable ability to develop research proposals and designs in collaboration with other academics.
	Experience of overseeing students with respect to the development of their practical/research skills e.g. acting as a demonstrator; supervising student projects/practicals.
	Experience in NGS library preparation and data analysis using Python


Skills


	Demonstrable ability to plan and manage independent research.

About Us

The Education Support Team is looking for a Programme Officer to offer high quality administrative support to postgraduate taught programmes within the School of Academic Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience.

The Programme Officer provides essential support to students and academics within this School and will work closely with the Programme Manager and Senior Programme Officers, and wider programme administration team, to ensure consistent management and delivery of taught provision through providing high quality administrative support. About The Role

The Education Support Team are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive administrator who is committed to providing an excellent administrative provision for our School of Academic Psychiatry programmes. The successful applicant will provide administrative support across a range of services for postgraduate taught programmes of study. This is an ideal opportunity to commence or further your career in Higher Education administration.

The Programme Officer will support students and academic staff as the first point of contact. They will interact with a wide range of academic and professional services staff from across the Faculty and the University whilst ensuring that our students and staff experience our services in a seamless and effective manner.

With support to develop a working knowledge of regulations and processes, the Programme Officer is a valued and trusted member of the team with a keen eye for accuracy and detail.

You will need to be highly motivated, with good time management and excellent attention to detail. The post holder must be an excellent communicator, able to present information clearly and concisely and disseminate information across varied levels. Applicants must have excellent IT skills, in particular Microsoft Excel and some experience of a student record system and/or VLE would be beneficial.  The role holder will be expected to manage a varied workload often across competing priorities, requiring the ability to negotiate and influence to deliver an excellent and effective administrative service.

Please note there are two positions available.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week) and you will be offered an indefinite contract. We offer hybrid working with two days in the Denmark Hill Office and the rest working from home.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

	Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to draft documents and correspondence
	Excellent organisation and time management skills
	Strong numeracy skills and ability to analyse complex numerical data
	Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and the ability to work on new systems

	Degree level or equivalent qualification or experience
	Experience in the use of databases, student records systems (such as SITS) and virtual learning environments 
	Prior experience of working in a customer facing environment

Description

The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi are inviting applications for a fully funded Post-Doctoral Associate position in the areas of organic electronics and optics.

The Post-Doctoral Associate will work under the supervision of Dr. Panče Naumov (Naumov Research Group) on structural and physico-chemical characterization of a variety of novel organic materials for electronics or optoelectronics. The candidate will use methods that include but are not limited to optical and spectroscopic characterization, electrical characterization, and mechanical characterization of materials in the solid state. Moreover, the post-doctoral associate will have access to the well-equipped core research facilities of NYUAD.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in solid-state chemistry, physics, electrical engineering or optics, with prior experience in the lab. Candidates with a strong publication record in optoelectronics of organic materials will be given a priority.
