THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY at SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY's Imperial Valley campus seeks to recruit a tenure-track faculty position in ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY at the Assistant professor level with the appointment beginning Fall 2025.For this position, we seek candidates with research and teaching expertise who can pioneer an innovative chemistry program in a previously underserved region of the state. The successful candidate will join the faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry at SDSU and work from a new, state-of-the-art research and teaching building at SDSU- Imperial Valley.Located in Brawley, CA, this new facility results from a recent strategic investment by the state of California to establish a world-class lithium production ecosystem in Imperial Valley that includes development of mineral and geothermal operations.  We welcome all candidates who will foster research collaborations, and particularly encourage applicants excited to prepare students for careers in this industry and other workforce needs (i.e., analytical, renewal energy, environmental and atmospheric chemistry and material sciences).SDSU has a diverse student body and is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). The Chemistry & Biochemistry department is highly research active and is an integral part of the university's strategic plan to become an R1, premier public research university in the near future.The Imperial Valley Campus is a branch of San Diego State University (SDSU) and enrolls approximately 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students. The student body is predominantly Hispanic/Latinx and female. Located 120 miles east of San Diego in an agricultural valley, SDSU Imperial Valley has two campuses: one in Calexico-just six blocks from the California-Mexico border-and another in Brawley, about 22 miles north of Calexico. Our proximity to the Mexican border, strong connections with universities in Baja California, deep community ties, and the cultural diversity of the local population offer significant opportunities for interdisciplinary, and cross-national research.The minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule for Assistant Professors and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. The anticipated salary range is from $90,000-$94,000. Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience, and salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances. Qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to develop a robust, extramurally funded, independent research program, to mentor undergraduate and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) students in chemical research, and be prepared to teach courses at all levels including lower division and upper division analytical chemistry. A Ph.D. degree and postdoctoral experience in chemistry or a related field are required. The Maximising UK Adaptation to Climate Change (MACC) Hub, housed within the Department of Geography and the School of Global Affairs (SGA) at King’s College London, is a pioneering initiative addressing the critical challenges of climate adaptation. Funded by the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and UK research councils (UKRI), the Hub will coalesce the skills and expertise needed from across relevant sectors to aid the development and implementation of climate change adaptation in the UK. The Hub draws together academic and knowledge exchange partners from across the UK to deliver on this objective.

As a dynamic hub of interdisciplinary research, the School of Global Affairs (SGA) brings together world-class expertise to tackle the most pressing global issues. About the role

We are pleased to offer this excellent opportunity to join our ambitious dynamic team in the School of Global Affairs, as a Senior Research Operations Officer.

The MACC Hub administers an £800,000 flexible fund to help it advance these goals and is seeking a Senior Research Operations Officer to develop and deliver this flexible fund.

Working closely with the Hub Manager, Director and with King’s Research Management and Information Directorate (RMID), this role will be responsible for managing the flexible fund element of the Hub. Responsibilities will include – supporting the allocation of funds to successful projects, managing stakeholders in those projects, and ensuring appropriate reporting and communication of results. The flexible fund will be allocated through two models: 1) an open call for research projects in summer 2025: 2) request for proposals for consultancies and secondments to respond to government-identified research gaps.

The post holder will join an exciting and high-profile UK-wide network of adaptation scholars and practitioners, as well as benefit from a dynamic working environment and cohort of research managers in the School of Global affairs research office.

The post holder will be able to work as part of King’s hybrid working model (Strand Campus), with the expectation to be on campus two days a week.

This is a full time (35 Hours per week) role, and you will be offered a fixed term contract until Dec 2026

About you

United Kingdom, Southampton

We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher of outstanding calibre to join our research program in the area of fibre optics and photonics. The position is funded by an EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) large-scale collaborative project between the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton and Microsoft Azure Fiber, located in nearby Romsey. The project seeks to research revolutionary-new optical fibres pioneered at the ORC that guide light in air rather than glass.   Air guiding increases the speed at which information is transmitted by 50%, which will contribute to the creation of Microsoft Azure’s next generation ultrafast datacentres and  optical networks. The project aims to address research as well as practical aspects of distributed characterization of hollow core fibres, including properties such as attenuation, polarization, but also pressure and content of air inside the fibres. 

 

The successful candidate will be based at the University but work in a strong collaborative environment with Microsoft researchers to solve scientifically-interesting, but also “real-world”  challenges associated with bringing a new technology from the lab into the real world.

A strong background in the fibre optics, advanced characterization techniques, and optical signal processing is highly desirable, along with an aptitude for developing new experimental techniques and methodologies that relate to this exciting research program.

To be successful with your application, you will need to demonstrate: 


	An awarded PhD in Physics/Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience 
	Excellent experimental research skills in the area of nonlinear photonics with a strong publication track record in high-quality international journals
	A willingness and ability to help with the supervision of PhD students
	Excellent communication and organizational skills, and a proven ability to work well within teams
