University of Southampton Libraries have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Customer Services Supervisor. Based at the Health Service Library within Southampton General Hospital, you will be joining the team providing services to our wide range of users including university staff, UHS staff, students and external visitors.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a small team offering excellent service to the users of the library. You will be a positive person, have experience of working in a customer facing role and be an effective communicator.

The library uses multiple IT systems to deliver an excellent customer service. Therefore, you will have recent experience of using standard Microsoft software with the ability to use a range of IT systems and communication platforms.  

The successful candidate will supervise a small team of Customer Services Assistants to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of a high quality and professional customer service to all library users. You will also form part of the University Library Enquiries team where you will answer customer queries in person, over the phone and in an online environment.

Salary is between £25,742- 28,759  pro rata per annum. Successful candidates will benefit from a generous annual leave entitlement, University Closure Days, a contributory pension scheme and a structured training programme. 

The following shift pattern is available:

About the Centre for Water Technology and Policy

The Centre for Water Technology and Policy, established in 2018, conducts cutting-edge research on water technology-policy interface issues that would result in findings of direct practical relevance for Hong Kong’s urban water sector. The Centre offers a vibrant working environment, embraces an innovative culture and commits to a can-do spirit. We are seeking a Senior Research Assistant to help coordinate the implementation of large-scale, city-wide applied research and knowledge exchange projects that pertain to urban water resources management.   

Position Overview

The appointee is expected to play a key coordinating role in implementing the Centre’s research and knowledge exchange programmes, which pertain to salient public policy matters in the urban water sector. He/She will work closely with the Centre’s Executive Director and members of an interdisciplinary team, with guidance and supervision provided by the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities


	Team collaboration: Collaborate closely with members of an interdisciplinary team, taking on a coordination function to ensure efficient project execution.
	Drafting of project write-ups: Conduct literature reviews and prepare first drafts of project progress reports.
	Community outreach: Utilize the latest smart water metering technologies and insights from behavioral science to design and conduct community outreach activities that focus on water sustainability issues.


Requirements


	An MPhil degree in a Social Sciences discipline (e.g., Geography; Public health; Public policy; Sociology; Urban planning), with at least one year’s post-qualification experience
	Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English
	Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment 
	Able to work independently and as a member of a team to meet tight deadlines


What We Offer

The appointment will commence as soon as possible, on a one-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. About us

The role sits within the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, and specifically within the MRI Clinical Research Department based at St Thomas’ Hospital.

The School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences are committed to improve the way we deliver healthcare through the use of advanced engineering.

The department has 9 MRI scanners and a catheterisation lab, providing clinical and research MRI services in the areas of cardiac, foetal, neonatal and advanced brain imaging.  The facility is embedded within St Thomas’ Hospital. Last year we conducted over 6000 clinical scans, of which over 4500 were recruited to research.

About the role

This role provides an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Advanced Cardiac MRI Research Radiographer in supporting both the clinical and research imaging operations. The role requires the job holder to help with the safe and efficient running and coordination of clinical and research activities across the imaging clinical research facility.

The job holder must be able to perform the full range of cardiovascular MRI scans, set up protocols, train and supervise staff in all aspects of delivery of clinical and research studies. The studies may cover not only cardiac, but also abdomen and neuro imaging including imaging guided interventional procedures.

The job holder is to work with the senior management team for quality control and assurance, safety screening, research subject handling, dealing with any incidental findings on the scans and any other aspects of clinical and research governance.

The job plans require the job holder to share their time flexibly between frontline service delivery and other administrative activities depending on the needs of the service. The Job holder is expected to participate in the standard operating hours by a rota system which requires the person to work flexibly in a work pattern which may be a three‐days week or a four‐days week or five‐days a week, depending on the service requirements. The standard operating hours of the service is set from 0800 hours to 2000 hours, from Monday to Friday. There will also be some expectation to participate in weekend working for service needs, which will be remunerated as per the agreed arrangements.

There will be a diverse range of projects requiring support, to include cardiovascular and body imaging. The post‐holder will be expected to perform their duties to a high standard, in accordance with Departmental policies, protocols and procedures. They will have the opportunity to be fully involved with research studies, by supporting innovation in imaging and taking on research tasks appropriate to their experience. The post‐ holder must provide excellent care to patients and volunteers and be supportive of the needs and expectations of developing clinical and research imaging services.


This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria 


	BSc Radiography or Diploma of the College of Radiographers (DCR)
	HCPC registration
	Cardiac MRI and body MRI knowledge and expertise
	MR Safety expertise
	Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice
	IV cannulation competence and experience
	Experience of clinical and research imaging and up‐to‐date knowledge of imaging techniques
	Able to work outside the standard working hours on an ad‐hoc basis (mainly weekends and bank holidays) and able to work shift patterns including early starts and/or late finishes
	Effective communicator (in person, in writing or by telephone) who works well in a multi‐disciplinary team


Desirable criteria


	Post‐graduate MRI qualification
	Experience of working in the NHS
	Experience of working with high field MRI systems
	Experience of MR‐guided biopsies or interventional procedures 
	Prior contribution to research outputs

Your personal sphere of influence:

As a university assistant prae doc, you will complement the research team around Prof. Ahrends' working group. The focus of the planned research is on the method development of high-throughput lipidomics analyses and their acquisition for the elucidation of cardiovascular diseases. The research project takes place in an interdisciplinary framework, and combines analytical method development with clinical relevant questions. Thus, this position requires a high level of commitment and communication.

The contract period upon employment in 4 years. Initially limited to 1,5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not submit a non-extension declaration within the first 12 months.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:


	You are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of analytical chemistry.
	We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
	You work on your dissertation and its completion.
	You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
	You take on administrative tasks in research and teaching.


This is part of your personality:


	Completed Master's degree or Diploma in chemistry, preferably in the field of analytical chemistry, medical biology or equivalent qualification.
	First practice in scientific writing and with research methods such as method skills: bionalytical chemistry, liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
	Didactic skills / experience with e-learning.
	IT user skills: MS Office desired, optional: R, Python, databases.

Engineeed Nanosystems group at Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering at Aalto University School of Science is looking for

Master’s Thesis worker / Research Assistant on compound semiconductor device design & fabrication within a research project targeting cryogenic optoelectronics for quantum data-links

We are looking for a highly motivated master student with an interest to continue with doctoral studies after graduation. Our research is focused on energy transfer in III-V compound semiconductors and is funded by the European commission within Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the Academy of Finland.

The master thesis project will be aimed at studying the properties of LED’s components below room temperature and down to cryogenic temperatures. The work will be done in a close collaboration with a team of experimentalists and theoreticians from both Aalto University and VTT. A successful candidate will have an important role in co-designing the experimental work of our research team aiming to demonstrate the next break-throughs in energy conversion between light, heat and electricity.
