Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology is located in Arusha in northern Tanzania. It belongs to a network of institutions aiming to fulfil Nelson Mandela’s wish to "develop the next generation of African scientists and engineers with a view to impacting professionally on the continent’s development through the application of science, engineering, technology and innovation".
Students can study across schools of life sciences, bio-engineering, computer and communications science and engineering, material, energy, water and environmental science, Earth sciences and engineering, and business studies and humanities.
Since 2020 it has run a free online farmer-led course on irrigation.
All courses are offered in Swahili.
It hosts the C-Code Centre for Competence in Digital Education as a digital training hub for East Africa.
In May 2024 it launched Nelson Mandela 98.9FM radio station.
