The Saveetha Medical and Educational Trust was created in 1986 mainly to provide medical relief, and to promote Education and encourage Research. The Trust started a General Hospital with 100 beds and later Saveetha Dental College was established in the year 1988. Subsequently, the Trust established a Nursing College in 1992, Physiotherapy College 1993, Occupational Therapy College and Subsequently, the following colleges were established by the Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS). Engineering College 2006,Saveetha Medical College and Hospital – 2008,Saveetha School of Management – 2008, Saveetha School of Law – 2009 , Saveetha College of Occupational Therapy – 2017, Saveetha School of Physical Education– 2017, Saveetha College of Allied Health Sciences – 2019, Saveetha College of Pharmacy -2019, Saveetha College of Architecture and Design- 2019,Saveetha College of Liberal Arts and Sciences-2020.
SIMATS is ranked 26th among all government and private universities, IITs, IIMs in MHRD NIRF Ranking 2022 and has maintained its position among the top 50 consecutively for the last three years. SIMATS is one of the 15 private universities in the country to enjoy complete Academic Autonomy based on the continued good rankings. It’s a matter of great pride that Saveetha Dental College was acclaimed 1st rank and Saveetha School of Law 14th rank in NIRF Ranking 2022.
Collaborative Initiatives
Industry institute interaction is a core domain that is necessary for the success of our students. 98% of our students are engaged in field visits and internship or research projects that provide rigorous training to perform research and also engage in real world problems with innovative solutions. Over 2000 collaborative events have translated into our excellent placement record of around 90%.

At Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, we include field work / Industrial visits, Internship and research projects into the curriculum, in order to achieve a holistic training. True to our Mission statement, these internships, outreach programmes widens intellectual horizons, transforms the personality of the student; from a novice to an expert with out of box thinking. At the same time they also develop into an empathetic professional with responsibility towards society. Over 5000+ Field visits/ Outreach / Industrial internships / Research projects, which would enrich the curriculum and enhance the learning experience were conducted from the year 2016 till 2022. A compulsory rotatory internship, with 2 months, is completely dedicated to postings in the rural centres,outreach programmes and target population oriented research projects.
Innovations, Research In Education
SIMATS teaching faculty actively emphasise the experiential learning methodologies in their pre-planned academic schedules, whereby the students are trained by doing the procedures and gain experience. More than 1000 hands-on experiments, 547 workshops/CDE’s, 180+ student-exchange programs, 752 collaborative projects, video based learning and Youtube channels etc.,have been created. Faculty also focus on exposing the different perspectives of students' thinking levels by applying heterogenous learning styles linking multiple disciplines, and transforming the students to be more skilled and reflecting the skills in practice. Additionally, students are engaged in an intentional sequence of learning events either individually or in small groups in a CLAB - classroom integrated with a laboratory set-up and comprehensive clinic set-up. MILA is our own innovative teaching method that includes activities like POGIL, Peer-led discussion, critical pedagogy, clay moulding, etc., are implemented during the lecture sessions for the students. We have published over 12000+ publications indexed in SCOPUS related to higher education methods making us one of the most education research intensive universities in India.
Innovation Ecosystem
SIMATS has numerous inhouse research and testing facilities that can be used by students and faculties which includes 227 departmental lab facilities, 20 Centres of excellence with advanced tool and research, 17 research unit parks, 6 Industry institute interface units, and 4 technology transfer centres. The research labs provide state of the art- cutting edge research equipment that can be used in development and testing of innovations. Some of technologies and equipment include 0.7 mm SEM TEM EDS (Scanning Electron Microscope), Ez Pulse Instron Dynamic Universal Testing Machine, Chewing Simulator, Brushing simulator, DMRL Laser Titanium 3D printer, Milling machine (i-mes i-core), 3D printers, Profilometer etc. The university's design studios are equipped with dome of the latest software like 3 Shape that can be used to 3D design appliances, Geo-Magix and Dolphin 3D Software that can be used for 3D diagnosis and surgical planning etc. Our University has 16 museums which display a wide array of models and specimens. There are 54 libraries in total with complete digital records. Our other facilities include 3 drawing rooms, 8 placement cells, 1 moot court, 1 tutorial room,1 legal aid cell, student counselling cell and a women empowerment cell in each institution.

SIMATS Sports Complex, sprawling over 20 acres, provides an educational and competitive pathway for players beginning from grassroots to the highest level of competition. Designed to be a comprehensive and holistic player’s development program. SIMATS Sports Complex has non - polluted, oxygenated ,outdoor facilities, rain or shine spacious, Indoor facilities. Cricket turf with pavilion, Cricket Non-Turf, Athletic track 400m ,Football Turf, Hockey, Tennis acrylic with flood light, Basketball concrete, Volleyball, Throwball, Handball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Ball Badminton, Swimming Pool with 6 Lane Main pool (25x13x1.35m),Baby pool (5.4x3x0.6m). Hall of Gymnastics (4000sq.ft) ,Modern Gym A/C -4 (6000sq.ft,) Multipurpose Indoor Hall 2 (8000sq.ft) and 2 Indoor synthetic Badminton courts.
Other facilities within campus like 24x7 medical aid with ambulance, Parking area 4 Acres, accommodation , 150 hostel rooms ,multi cuisine restaurants 20 No, Sports Courses (B.P.E.S, B.P.Ed, Ph.D, M.SC Sports Medicine) ,Sports physiotherapist & Sports psychologist facilitate conduct of International and national level tournaments.
