Campinas is a city in the Sao Paulo state region, and is home to the main campus of the State University of Campinas (Unicamp).

The multi-discipline university also has affiliate campuses in Brazilian cities such as Limeira and Paulínia. Campinas is known not only for its temperate climate at the Tropic of Capricorn but also its wide range of cultural centres such as dozens of cinemas and bars, known locally as “barzinhos”. 

The university was opened in 1966, and although one of Brazil’s younger institutions has established itself as a primary medical and scientific research centre. As part of this research and development the university produces a high amount of patented material, outstripping other larger institutions and companies. A major breakthrough was achieved in 2003 when scientists from Unicamp licensed a patent for genetic death detection, and in more recent years scientists at Unicamp have developed a test for detection of the Zika virus. 

Also in Campinas and maintaining a strong working relationship with Unicamp is the National Synchrotron Light Laboratory. This institute is a benefit to students studying physics and nanotechnology, and is home to the only particle accelerator in South America. Outside of the sciences, students at Unicamp may take undergraduate courses in arts such as Dance and Communication Studies, or in humanities such as Business Administration and Social Sciences. 

International undergraduates will need to sit an exam before acceptance, which will require a strong understanding of the Portuguese language. Like all state run universities, both Brazilian and international students do not pay tuition fees. The most common airport for international students to fly into is the Guarulhos International Airport, located around 135km from the Campinas campus. 

Alumni of Unicamp include actor Petrônio Gontijo, historian and gay rights activist Luiz Mott, and economist Paulo Renato Souza.

About us This is an exciting opportunity to gain and develop research skills. The post-holder will join Dr Tom Pollak’s research group and play a key role in innovative studies taking a new immunologically focussed approach to understanding and treating neuropsychiatric disorders. The group is investigating how the immune system may hold clues to how psychosis and other psychiatric disorders are caused and how people respond to treatments. We will investigate blood and cerebrospinal fluid from patients and use machine-learning to identify the treatment-relevant immune processes, with an emphasis on immune cells, autoantibodies and inflammatory markers. If we can show causal links, our work could guide future targeted immune-based interventions. The studies involve subject recruitment and collection of clinical data and bio samples (blood and cerebrospinal fluid) from patients. The main focus is on an exciting new prospective, longitudinal study aiming to assess the immunological effects of antipsychotic treatment. It is being led by a team from KCL and the Francis Crick Institute and is unique for its interdisciplinary nature, combining expertise from clinical psychiatry, immunology and neuroscience, with significant ongoing input from people with lived experience of psychosis. The post-holder will have a central role in the team and will contribute to its dynamic, friendly and supportive culture, and to its strong spirit of multidisciplinary scientific enquiry. The Department of Psychosis Studies is one of the world’s leading centres for research into psychotic disorders. We aim to advance the understanding and treatment of psychotic disorders across all stages to improve the lives of patients and their families. Our staff include clinical and non-clinical scientists with a wide range of expertise and are recognised globally as innovators of high-quality translational research. About the role The purpose of this role is to deliver exciting and innovative research studies in the Department of Psychosis Studies. Working closely with the Lead Investigators, the post holder will ensure the successful conduct and completion of the research programme. They will contribute to the collection and analysis of data and play a key role in the assessment and monitoring of participants. They will also work closely with other research staff in the project and foster effective collaborative working relationships with the local and regional services for psychosis, as well as neurology, rheumatology and neuropsychiatry services. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to deliver teaching on immunopsychiatry topics and will have the opportunity to join a unique and growing clinical immunopsychiatry service. The post-holder will have opportunities to get involved in data analysis and develop their research interests within the projects. Training in research methods will be provided, and the post-holder will develop skills in using gold-standard diagnostic and clinical ratings, which will be useful for future research and clinical practice. The post would be ideal for a clinician with an interest in the rapidly expanding field of immunopsychiatry. There is potential to develop a project for a PhD application for a suitable candidate. The start date is flexible and may be negotiated with the right candidate. This is a full-time post (40 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months with possibility to extend. Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer)

We are seeking an enthusiastic anatomic pathologist to join a team of three faculty and one resident in our £11m purpose-built state-of-the-art Veterinary Pathology Centre. This on site role will enhance our 100 strong team of teaching and research staff in the University of Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine. The Veterinary Pathology Centre was built seven years ago and contains both a CL2 (containment level 2) post-mortem area with viewing gallery, and a CL3 post-mortem area. Private diagnostic post-mortems, and APHA (Animal Plant Health Agency) surveillance post-mortems are undertaken at the site.  The role The role will include undertaking diagnostic service, including biopsy and post-mortems, teaching final year (year 5) students on intramural rotations (IMR) post-mortem skills, and participating in lecturing, practical classes, and assessment of year 1-4 undergraduates. Supervision and participation in the residency programme is also expected, and you may be asked to provide CPD activities to external partners from time to time.  This is a permanent post subject to satisfactory performance and is based on site in Guildford. There would be opportunities for individuals to develop their career through research or other aspects as preferred. About you Successful candidates must have a veterinary degree that is registerable with the RCVS, have experience in surveillance and post-mortem services, and be interested in teaching and supervising students in the veterinary pathology aspects of our curriculum. To be successful in this role, you will have excellent communication skills, an appetite for innovative teaching, strong organisational skills and will enjoy working in a team. You will have an interest in broadening your veterinary profile through the development and delivery of undergraduate teaching in veterinary pathology and you will be supported in achieving this by participation in our inhouse, externally accredited Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. The Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Helsinki, invites applications for the position of UNIVERSITY TEACHER IN MOLECULAR AND INTEGRATIVE BIOSCIENCES (ESPECIALLY NEUROBIOLOGY) This fixed position from 1.8.2026 (or as agreed) – 31.5.2030 is based in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Biosciences, which is one of the three Departments in the Faculty and located on the Viikki Campus. Tasks Teaching and teaching-related tasks account for the majority (70-90%)of the annual working time. The primary focus will be on contributing to the curriculum of the Master’s Programme in Neuroscience — an international, multilingual programme that attracts both national and international students. In addition, the selected candidate will be involved in bachelor level teaching and teaching-related tasks. Teaching responsibilities will include fundamental topics in neurobiology from molecular and cellular to systems level, as well as quantitative analysis methods and examples of modern approaches in fundamental research. The university teacher selected for the position will be the responsible teacher on selected courses, teach on courses coordinated by other teachers and to assist professors and university lecturers with course preparation and management. Key duties also include student guidance, bachelor’s and master’s thesis supervision and evaluation as well as participation in collaboration with the faculty’s degree programmes. The candidate is encouraged to integrate into Department’s research activities. We expect the candidate to be able to work collaboratively, contributing to joint teaching initiatives and to foster a learning environment that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving. Selection criteria According to the University of Helsinki's administrative regulations, applicants must have a relevant higher education degree and teaching experience. When assessing applicants’ qualifications, emphasis will be placed on proficiency and teaching experience in molecular and integrative biosciences, in particular that of relevance for the curriculum of the Master’s Programme in Neuroscience, demonstrated pedagogical competence, supervision of bachelor and master’s theses, and ability to advance the use of interactive and student-centered education methods. Expertise in blended learning approaches that incorporate modern digital tools are regarded as an asset. The successful candidate should have good knowledge of cutting-edge approaches for investigating neurobiological systems at different levels of organization and to be committed to excellence in research-based undergraduate education. Additional merits include a doctoral degree and other research experience, particularly in the field of neurobiology.  Teaching skills The overall teaching skills of a university teacher must be at least at a good level. Applicants' teaching skills will be assessed in relation to the curriculum of the Master’s Programme in Neuroscience in the field of neurobiology. Applicants' teaching skills will be assessed using the faculty's assessment matrix and a teaching demonstration. Language skills The university requires that those holding teaching and research positions must be proficient in the language of instruction, which in this case is English.
