The University of Bonn, officially named The Rhenish Friedrich Wilhelm University of Bonn after the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm, was founded in 1818.
Established at the time of the Age of Enlightenment, the university, built on critical thinking and liberal values, expanded rapidly with many eminent scholars attending from across the whole of Germany.
By the 1930s, the Nazis had forced many Jewish intellectuals and dissidents to leave, and the wartime bombardment of Bonn that followed in 1944 led to the university’s destruction. In the post-war period, the university was rebuilt, students returned and its academics set about restoring the institution to its former glory.
Today, the University of Bonn is among the world’s leading research universities. It is home to more than 35,000 students and 4,500 academic staff, with strategic partnerships in place with 70 universities across the globe. Its strong international spirit is evident in its cohort of 4,000 international students, which, at about 12.5% of the student populace, is higher than the national average. Each year it confers approximately 800 PhDs.
The university cites subject strengths in Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, Economics, Biosciences, and Philosophy. Boasting two Nobel Prize winners: Wolfgang Paul in 1989 for Physics, and Reinhard Selten in 1994 for Economics, it also has associations with eight Leibniz Prize winners. Its most notable alumni include Karl Marx, Friedrich Nietzsche, and the composer Robert Schumann.
Offering over 90 degree programmes, the university is located across 371 buildings in the city of Bonn. Situated on the banks of the River Rhine, Bonn is a historic city and the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven.

About Us We are seeking a skilled Analyst within the Drug Control Centre (DCC), King’s Forensics in the Department of Analytical, Environmental & Forensic Sciences. The post holder will have experience in Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry and have some laboratory experience preferably working with biological samples. The DCC is the only World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory in the UK and played a key role as the testing laboratory for the London 2012 Olympics, Glasgow 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2024 UK Athletics Diamond League events. The DCC is also accredited by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) as a testing laboratory, in accordance with ISO 17025. You will be a highly motivated individual who can work within a team and under the supervision of the Lead Analyst (GC-Technologies), the postholder will analyse biological samples in accordance with the WADA International Standard for Laboratories. Full training will be provided for the new member of staff are required to carry out a range of activities using standard laboratory operating procedures and working to always comply with the principals of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). The post holder will be organised, have good attention to detail and proficient in routine laboratory skills. They will be able to work alone as well as in a team. This post is entirely based on campus. About The Role The post holder is a member of the DCC Analyst family, King’s Forensics, providing high quality analytical support for sports testing within a highly controlled environment based in the Department of Analytical, Environmental & Forensic Science, King’s College London. The post holder will carry out recognised analytical skills in a range of analytical methods predominantly using GC-MS, where the primary focus will be working in a team that operates a routine analytical service. There will be a need for liaison with staff members across the laboratory. You will perform sophisticated routine analysis in compliance with ISO17025 and WADA International Standards for Laboratories (ISL) using established standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the analysis of biological samples. Being a team player, you will help ensure the smooth running of the GC-Team taking shared responsibility for the efficient use of resources and demonstrating stock control of items used and GLP. As a core part of your role, you will demonstrate efficiency in your daily tasks booking samples in and performing sample preparation to assist the GC-Team and developing wider skills as you gain experience. Full training will be given. You will also be expected to carry out routine maintenance of GC instruments as appropriate as well as the calibration of pipettes under the direction of the Lead Analyst. Attention to detail is required as you will maintain a training record in accordance with the requirements of UKAS ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. A willingness to help is key in our busy, evolving laboratory environment. About us The School of Academic Psychiatry brings together five leading clinical departments Addictions, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Science, Psychological Medicine, and Psychosis Studies. Our community includes more than 100 Principal Investigators and a vibrant research portfolio supported by £30–40 million in active grants. Across the School, our work spans the full breadth of psychiatry—from public policy to molecular genetics, from perinatal mental health to old age, and from psychological therapies to advanced brain imaging. This role will be based in the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHBA), Department of Psychological Medicine. The Centre aims to advance the development of biomarkers for neurocognitive disorders and to create innovative approaches for the early diagnosis of cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s disease, and ageing-related psychiatric conditions. As a centre of excellence for clinical trials, we support the development of novel therapeutic strategies and technologies while improving patient access to both established and emerging treatments. About the role The Clinical Research Fellow will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality clinical research within the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing. Working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, the postholder will support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical studies while ensuring strict adherence to trial protocols, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements. A core component of the role will be to work with retrospective data from participants living with dementia and prospectively collected data from ongoing participants for research and analysis purposes, with research supported by the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The successful candidate will also be contributing weekly to the Brain Health Clinic at SLaM under the supervision of Prof Dag Aarsland, providing compassionate and clinically sound support to participants, many of whom have memory difficulties or dementia. The Fellow will conduct cognitive and study-specific assessments, maintain accurate participant records, and ensure timely collection and processing of biological samples in line with SOPs and GCP. The role requires excellent communication skills, with responsibility for maintaining effective relationships with participants, families, clinicians, researchers, and external partners. The Clinical Research Fellow will contribute to data entry, cleaning, analysis, and the preparation of reports and research outputs, as well as participating in clinical and research supervision.
