About

Basic information and contact details for the University of Hull

institution

• The University of Hull was formed in 1927, making us the 14th oldest university in England. Home to over 14,500 students, the University has a proud history of academic excellence and of creating and inspiring life-changing research.
• Sustainability is at the core of our University strategy. From announcing a bold carbon neutral vision to tackling social injustice and inequality in both healthcare and workplaces, at Hull we are committed to creating a brighter future for all.
• In November 2019, the University announced an ambition to become carbon neutral by the year 2027 – in time for our centenary anniversary. This will be achieved by reducing our existing carbon footprint on campus, by finding new, renewable ways to power our estate, and by integrating sustainability into our curriculum for students.
• Our renowned Energy & Environment Institute continues to tackle the devastating effects of climate change, seeking pioneering low-carbon technologies and increased flood resilience.
• Our team at Aura is at the heart of the Humber region’s renewables sector, collaborating with industry to support the transition to a low-carbon economy.
• The University is home to the Wilberforce Institute for the Study of Slavery and Emancipation. Walking in the footsteps of Hull MP William Wilberforce, researchers at the Institute are helping governments, businesses and communities root out slavery at its source.
• Tackling health inequality is also a key focus of the University. Hull York Medical School and the University’s own Health Department supply the region’s health sector with a skilled, dedicated workforce for the future.
• From helping pregnant women and new mums with their mental health and wellbeing to driving innovation in cancer imaging techniques, our Institute of Clinical and Applied Health Research is helping to advance healthcare provision in our region and beyond.
