The University of Copenhagen was founded in 1479, and was made up of four faculties: Theology, Law, Medicine and Philosophy. It is the oldest university in Denmark and the second-oldest in Scandinavia. It is also the largest higher education institution in Denmark. The university has gone through many changes over the years: initially it was an academic republic with its own laws and courts, and it maintained this status until 1771, finally losing its “professional power” in the 1960s. 

Today the University of Copenhagen has about 100 departments and research facilities and six faculties – Health and Medical Sciences, Humanities, Law, Science,  Social Sciences and Theology – which offer more than 200 programmes at bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate degree levels. Many courses are also provided in English.

The university employs more than 5,000 academic staff, about 80 per cent of whom are research staff. In 2015, the university had more than 4,500 subsidy-financed research projects.

The university consists of four main campuses, three of which – North Campus, City Campus and South Campus – are in Copenhagen, with Fredericksburg campus, where the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences are located, being in nearby Fredericksburg. 

Nine researchers associated with the University of Copenhagen have been awarded Nobel Prizes, including Niels Bohr, who was awarded the the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922 for his work on the structure of atoms. Other notable alumni include Tycho Brahe, who made the first scientific documentation of supernovas, and the philosopher Kierkegaard.

GMP Technician (PERL)

About Us The PET Centre is part of Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London within the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences. The Positron Emitting Radiopharmaceutical Laboratory (PERL) plays a crucial role in the clinical PET Centre, serving over 8,000 patients and research participants annually from South-East London and beyond. It is an integral part of both King's College London's School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences and Guy's & St Thomas' National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust. Our PET Center relies heavily on the PERL facility for the supply of radiopharmaceuticals and this is likely to become increasingly important when the new Total Body PET scanner is installed later this year. Comprising two GMP clean rooms, a QC laboratory, and an R&D laboratory with a total of 24 hot cells, the PERL facility is equipped with a PETtrace high-energy cyclotron and various dispensing units, calibrators, and analysis equipment. It operates under a “Specials” manufacturing license, currently producing [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) and [11C]methionine routinely, with ongoing development of additional radiotracers. About The Role The role of the GMP Technician is to provide specialist support services to the Positron Emitting Radiopharmaceutical Laboratory (PERL). This facility operates to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards under a Specials Manufacturing Licence from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The GMP Technician will be responsible for performing the Transport of Radioactive Materials, fulfilling 18F-fluoride orders for external customers, and ensure that excellent cleaning standards are maintained, in line with the terms of GMP and the MHRA licence. They will do this by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and specific instructions given by their manager. This will include observing clean room procedures in relation to handwashing, gowning and clean room behaviour, and making sure that all activities are recorded appropriately.  The post-holder will become a key support member to the core team responsible for production of radiopharmaceuticals necessary for PET scans used for patient benefit. This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 1 year in the first instance (with possibility of extension). The usual working hours will be 7 hours per day within the range of 07:00 - 18:30. All work will be done on-site at St Thomas’ Hospital. The University of Southampton is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in gravitational-wave astronomy. The successful candidate will join Greg Ashton’s STFC-funded programme, Advancing Gravitational-Wave Astronomy Using Artificial Intelligence, to work on computational Bayesian inference methods and their astrophysical applications.  Southampton's School of Mathematical Sciences is home to a large research group in gravitational physics, comprising 9 staff members, over 15 postdoctoral researchers, and approximately 15 PhD students. Research in the group includes black-hole and neutron-star physics, gravitational-wave source modelling and data analysis, gravitational self-force modelling and numerical relativity. The group is involved in the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, the LISA Consortium, the Einstein Telescope collaboration and the Cosmic Explorer consortium.  Candidates should demonstrate a track record of research in gravitational-wave astronomy. The applicant will have, or be about to obtain, a relevant PhD degree in physics or mathematics.  This is a full-time post, available from the 5th of January 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is funded for two years with the possibility of a 1-year extension. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.
