About us

We are looking for an enthusiastic administrative assistant and receptionisist to join our PET imaging team at King’s College London (KCL) & Guy’s and St Thomas’ (GSTT) PET Centre.

The PET Centre is part of both King's College London's School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences in the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine, and Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

​We run a clinical PET service in parallel with an extensive programme of clinical research. Facilities currently include 2 cyclotrons, radiochemistry labs, 3 PET-CT scanners and a PET-MR scanner.

About the role

The PET Receptionist and Administrative assistant is a key member of the PET administrative team responsible for the provision of clerical administrative support in all aspects of the PET Centre's activities.  This will cover both St Thomas’ Hospital and Guy’s Cancer Centre and will include clinical, research and radiochemistry service provision and will be working under the direction of the PET Operations Officer.   

The post holder will assist with maintaining departmental records in an organised and accessible manner in addition to preparing patients records for filing and scanning.  They will also contribute to general clerical activities including processing patient appointment letters, collating scanning lists in addition to calling and communicating PET protocol to patients before the scan appointment.

This is a full-time position involving a high level of patient contact both face to face and by telephone and requires well developed, verbal, organisational, computing skills and accuracy. The post holder must be able to remain calm and project a welcoming and friendly manner recognising that patients may be nervous and under stress when they are contacted or attend for scan appointments.

This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 1 year (full time attendance on site is required)

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria 


	Minimum level 1 qualifications, e.g. GCSE, or vocational qualifications and/or skills and experience acquired during relevant work experience
	Excellent literacy & numeracy skills
	General administrative experience including maintenance of accurate filing systems
	Excellent communication and face to face interpersonal skills with people at all levels including good spoken English and excellent telephone manner
	Good knowledge of MS Office including Word Processing, Excel, PowerPoint and use of email/internet
	Good organisational skills with strong accuracy and reliability and a flexible approach to duties
	Ability to work effectively as part of a team
	Ability to respond to non-standard situations and work calmly under pressure


Desirable criteria


	Knowledge/experience of managing patient administration and management databases
	Experience of working in a hospital/medical environment
	Willing to work flexible hours

Department of Chemistry and Materials Science (CMAT) [Position code: FRANSSILA]

Biorepellent structures and coatings

You will develop coatings and microtexturing to create surfaces which resist adhesion of cells, cells media and protein solutions. These surfaces are being developed for applications in medical diagnostics. The coatings are on planar surfaces and inside capillaries. The work will include cleanroom-based microfabrication at Micronova.

Micromachining for omnirepellent surfaces

Water repellent (hydrophobic) surfaces are easy to make, but it is much more difficult to make surfaces that repel solvents and oils. In this project “nanoserif” surfaces will be fabricated. They contain nanoscale features for enhancing liquid repellency. The work will include cleanroom-based microfabrication at Micronova.

Electronics Integration and Reliability [Position code: PAULASTO-KRÖCKEL]

Electronics Integration and Reliability (EILB) is a research group at Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering focused on exploring innovative materials and design concepts for advanced electronics. We are developing high-efficiency, sustainable semiconductor substrates and devices for power electronics, RF, and smart sensor applications. 
Title: In-plane heat transfer characterization of highly oriented aluminium nitride films 

During the internship, the student will work with x-ray diffraction and time domain thermoreflectance method to study in-plane thermal conductivity and correlation with crystal quality and lateral/vertical grain size. Day-to-day tasks may include sample preparation, measurements, data analysis/interpretation, and reporting/documentation of the analysis workflow.

Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering (ELE)

Integrated photonics [Position code: VERRINDER]

The integrated photonics group at Aalto specializes in the design and fabrication of next-generation semiconductor lasers and photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for applications in remote sensing, quantum technology, and free-space optical communication. We are offering a position which focuses on experimental work in the Micronova cleanroom. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of new fabrication processes for GaAs-based lasers and PICs. Experimental work could include electrical and optical characterization of lasers and other devices, fabricating surface passivation layers, and developing new processes for quantum dot/quantum well intermixing. There is also the possibility to focus more on device modelling and simulation, if you prefer working at a computer (some python and/or optoelectronic device simulation experience required).

Optoelectronics: Characterization of printed plasmonic nanostructures [Position code: SOPANEN]

This position will involve characterization of printed plasmonic nanostructures. Plasmonics is a term used to describe utilization of surface electromagnetic waves for various purposes. Tasks will include optical measurements of plasmonic samples, as well as other measurements to characterize sample surfaces. Some fabrication tasks may also be included, such as metallization of samples.

Advanced characterization of modern silicon wafers [Position code: SAVIN]

Electron Physics Group offers you a position where you will be closely working with the Finnish semiconductor industry. The work includes fabrication of various surface passivation layers for silicon wafers in Micronova clean room, electrical and optical characterization of the wafers as well as discussions with industry representatives. Prior knowledge on basics of semiconductor physics is considered a merit but not a requirement.

Organic Semiconductors: Materials and Interfaces: [Position code: SOLDANO] 
The Organic Electronics Group is looking for a curious and talented student at MSc level, for the Summer 2025. The field of Organic Electronics exploits organic molecules and their optical and electronic properties to develop functional electronics. You will contribute to the advance of organic thin film transistor, thus a relevant background in semiconductor physics or materials science is highly desired. Your role will be to develop organic semiconductors thin films to study and improve device performances. Experimental work includes growth of materials, studies of surfaces, device fabrication and characterization. The position is suitable for students who want to carry out the experimental part of special assignment or continue to a Master thesis.

Open source RISC-V microprocessor and accelerator development [Position code: KOSUNEN_IC_PROCESSING] 

Are you the one born with enthusiasm towards programming and microprocessors? This is the dream job for you. RISC-V is an open-source microprocessor instruction set, which is gaining interest in academia and industry. In Aalto, Department of Electronics and nanoengineering, we have developed our own open-source RISC-V core implementation that we can use as a controller in our mixed-mode System-on-Chip designs. Simultaneously we provide hands-on education on Digital SoC design to fulfill the rapidly growing need of Finnish electronics industry.

In this work we start from the basics. Successful execution of the work requires willingness to learn fluent Unix working habits, Git version control, shell scripting, Python, and Scala/Chisel programming, complemented with entry level knowledge of analog design tools and methodology. Topic focuses on improving current RISC-V implementation and merging it with digital and analog signal processing and cryptography accelerators and sensor interfaces possibly advancing to implementation on silicon or verification on FPGA according to your preferences. The position is appropriate for B.Sc. and M.Sc. students eager to learn with a hint of enthusiasm to go where very few has gone before.

Analog building block design with Berkeley Analog Generator [Position code: KOSUNEN_IC_BAG]

The rumors about the death of Analog electronics are premature, as Analog just went Programmatic. If you are willing to learn how to design Analog microelectronics by defining the parametrized implementation with Python, this is the dream job for you.

Analog building blocks are needed in every piece of microelectronics and Systems-on-Chip, like digital circuitry and microprocessors. Programmatic design methodology aims to provide parametrized and optimized analog building blocks for these needs. Berkeley Analog Generator is a design environment recently developed in University of Berkeley which enables analog circuit design by programmatic means. In Aalto we are looking for pioneer students with enthusism to learn to take this new methodology into use. If you want to be a game changer, this is your moment.

Fully Open-Source Aalto-Analog-Generator Flow and Posting User-Friendly Tutorial [Position code: KIM]
Open-source IC design is revolutionizing analog circuits by addressing the need for automation in a traditionally manual, labor-intensive field. Conventional methods, like manually drawing circuits with CAD tools, are being replaced by Python-based scripts that automate design and enable reusable, open-source workflows. This shift has also unlocked AI-driven IC design as a promising solution.
