The data portal for the next Times Higher Education World University Rankings and Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) is now open, with institutions from across the world invited to take part.

Universities can now submit data to be included in the two league tables, both of which will be published in autumn 2025. The portal will be open for more than two months, closing on 30 March. There are no fees to participate but only institutions that submit data through the portal will be included in the tables.

Institutions that would like to participate in the ISR 2026, a project in association with Schmidt Science Fellows, must submit data for the World University Rankings, as well as extra data on their interdisciplinary science using the same portal, as was the case last year.

The inaugural Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, published in November 2024, was THE’s largest-ever debut ranking with participation from 749 institutions in more than 90 countries or territories, and a further 274 reporter institutions.

This year, in response to university engagement and feedback, the interdisciplinary scope has been broadened to cover any research project that comprises multiple scientific disciplines, or one or more scientific disciplines combined with one or more social science disciplines.

Data submission is open to all universities for both rankings, but institutions will only be ranked if they satisfy certain criteria (see our inclusion/exclusion criteria for the World University Rankings and the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings).

Institutions that do not meet the ranking requirements are still encouraged to provide data as they will be able to access benchmarking tools via THE DataPoints. They will also be listed in the relevant rankings tables as “reporter” institutions, unless they opt out of this status.

Advice and guidance on how to submit institutional data is available on the portal in several languages. After the portal closes at the end of March, universities may be contacted to verify their data.

Last year, THE’s data team, in partnership with the global higher education sector, collected data from 2,860 universities across 127 territories to create the World University Rankings 2025.

THE’s bibliometrics data supplier Elsevier also analysed 18 million research publications and 157 million citations for the league tables.

The information collected for the World University Rankings through the portal this year will fuel not only the 2026 global ranking and subject tables, but also several regional and thematic rankings, including THE’s ArabAsia and Latin America tables.

Last autumn, THE conducted a series of masterclasses analysing the results of the World University Rankings 2025 and the results of the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, as well as discussing participation for the 2026 editions.
