Description

The Music and Sound Cultures (MaSC) Group, Division of Arts and Humanities, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research assistant to support the group on various levels. 

The Music and Sound Cultures research group is dedicated to the computational analysis and understanding of music from the Arab World and surrounding regions through a hybrid methodology employing humanistic and computational methods. Among its several projects, the group is developing a digital compendium of music from the region. This project combines digital archiving, artificial intelligence, deep learning, and the digital humanities in unique ways to develop multimedia tools that enable a deeper understanding of this music and its cross-cultural relationships. Consisting of an ever-growing collection of music from the Levant, Gulf, East Africa, and South India, this compendium contains several commercial recordings and original field recordings. MaSC is developing new ways to compare, understand and visualize this music with the goal of obtaining a deeper insight on its origins, influences, and cross-cultural traits. 

The successful applicant will be in charge of web development, music annotation and digital archiving, as well as general research support.

Web development will entail maintaining and updating the MaSC website, developing specialized websites to conduct experiments and to host specialized content (e.g. demos of existing software, musical applications that run on web browsers, etc).

Music annotation will consist in doing annotations of features of the music in specialized software (e.g. Sonic Visualizer) and creating specialized metadata tags specifying musical features to assist on the computational analysis. 

Digital archiving will support the digitization and digital transfer of music from the region according to the NYUAD Library standards for digital preservation, and prepare these data for annotation. 

General research support will include writing of technical reports and papers with the other members of the research team, as well as presentation in conferences.

The candidate will work under direct supervision of Prof. Carlos Guedes, and in collaboration with other members of the research group. 

Applicants must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Music/Anthropology/Interactive Media/Multimedia/Computer Science and have some experience in Sound and Music Computing, and Web development. Python, Javascript or other programming languages are desired. 

A previous experience on digital archiving, computational analysis of music and/or musical annotation would be an asset.

The mission of the Centre for English and Additional Languages (CEAL) at Lingnan University is to enhance the English language skills of Lingnan students and to provide language support to help students succeed in their academic studies and future careers. The Centre provides compulsory and elective English courses as well as organising a range of co-curricular language activities. CEAL also offers courses in additional languages such as Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and French.

General Requirements

Lingnan University is looking for a well-qualified language specialist to head the CEAL. Applicants for the position should demonstrate excellence in teaching as well as having a proven record of curriculum/course development, delivery and assessment. Extensive management experience in a university English language centre or similar environment is desirable. S/he will have a PhD in English language (preferably Applied Linguistics) or a related area, a minimum of five years’ administrative experience, ten years of teaching experience in university English, and a track record of research and publication in language learning and teaching. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor of Teaching.

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Are you good with data, interested in Africa and topics like climate change and displacement? Political scientists at NYU Abu Dhabi are looking for a full-time research assistant/associate to be based in Abu Dhabi for the academic year 2025-26 (start date: September 2025). 

The position entails data management and analysis, writing literature reviews, aid with grant applications, and text editing.

Candidates must have advanced data analysis skills in Stata and R, and advanced writing skills. The preferred candidate has a master’s degree in any social science discipline, quantitative data analysis, or statistics; candidates with qualifications in political science are preferred. Undergrads with excellent skill sets will also be considered.

There might be an opportunity for co-authorships for a qualified candidate. The position comes with competitive salary and benefits, including relocation and housing allowances.

The New York University Abu Dhabi Center for Genomics and Systems Biology (NYUAD-CGSB) is a well established research cluster focused on the use of global or “systems” level approaches to address the organization and function of biological systems at multiple levels: cells, organisms, populations and ecosystems. The NYUAD-CGSB is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to conduct research on adaptive evolution in invasive species, using the mesquite tree (Prosopis sp.) as a model system. This position will be based at NYU Abu Dhabi and supervised by NYUAD-CGSB’s Director, Dr. Stephane Boissinot, Professor of Biology and P.I. of the NYUAD Evolutionary Genomics Laboratory.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will combine -omics approaches and field experiments to (1) determine the role of population structure, demography and hybridization in shaping genetic diversity in invasive and native populations of mesquite trees; (2) determine the genetic bases of adaptation in invasive populations; (3) link genotypes and phenotypes across levels of organization among populations adapted to different habitats. Candidates must have a strong background in various –omics approaches (genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, metagenomics). Since data and samples will be collected in populations from both the invasive (Middle-East, East Africa, South Asia) and native (Central and South America) ranges, candidates must have an interest in fieldwork and a taste for travel.

The NYUAD-CGSB has access to state of the art equipment for sequencing, microscopy, and high-throughput screening and well-equipped core facilities for conducting any kind of chemical or biological analyses. The candidate will be part of a team of 5 Postdoctoral Associates in the research group of Prof. Boissinot, who are working on a diversity of research projects focused around adaptive evolution and the evolution of genomic structure and function. 

To be successful in this role you MUST possess the following to be considered:


	PhD in Biology from an accredited university.
	A strong publication record with first-author experience.
	Experience in working with plants.
	Expertise in population genetics.
	Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with external stakeholders, collaborators, and students.


Previous experience in the following is DESIRABLE but not essential:


	Experience in -omics approaches.
	Knowledge of plant physiology.
	Experience in field research.
	Ability to lead and conduct multiple, possibly divergent, research projects simultaneously.
	Mentoring of undergraduate students in a research setting.
	Ability to plan, allocate, and monitor research budgets for projects.


This position will begin September 01, 2025 as a two-year contract, renewable depending on funding availability and performance. Note that a later starting date is possible. The role comes with an attractive salary and benefits package, including housing, medical insurance, annual home leave allowance and (if relevant) dependent school fees; salaries are tax free in the UAE.
