Akiko Morozumi: universities need to respond with big ideas and creativity

Japanese higher education is about to face a major transformation as a result of the pandemic, says a University of Tokyo academic

Akiko Morozumi, associate professor at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Education, discusses the challenges that the Japanese higher education system, among others, faces in wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

She particularly notes the high tuition costs, increased online access and lack of in-person facilities that will be challenging for universities to address. These changes, she believes, will cause universities to undergo a major transformation in the near future.
