This is an engaging textbook, not least because it embraces with considerable enthusiasm both the content and the style of "popular" culture. The range of material covered is considerable, even if there is perhaps an over-enthusiastic use of the work of Slavoj Zizek and Jacques Derrida.
The book is interesting to read in itself, and for the case it makes, although it might best be read alongside texts that engage with a greater diversity of theorists and provide the reader with a wider discussion of more clearly differentiated forms (and contexts) of popular culture.
Who is it for? Second/third-year undergraduates and graduate students.
Presentation: Lively style, but different typefaces in the afterword are confusing.
Would you recommend it? Yes, but as an additional text.
