Common cause

Proposals to merge the still unrecognised ethnic-Albanian University of Tetovo with our institution, one of the three fully recognised and accredited universities in Macedonia, aroused our interest ("Macedonia to legalise Tetovo", THES, July 11).

We continue to build and develop our campus with huge financial, logistic and moral support from the European Union, USAid and other donors. From none to 3,500 students in two years must be a record. We have applications from all ethnic groups.

We fully support a sensible and realistic solution to the long-standing problem of Tetovo. But the university must meet the standards applied to us in order to guarantee acceptance as part of the European higher education area. If that is done and Tetovo satisfies the government on its financing and governance arrangements, all of us will be more than delighted to welcome it into the family.
