Upon reading the article about Edward Said ("Critical thinking on the path to peace", THES, March 9), it struck me how symmetrical the situation in the Israel-Palestinian conflict has become, reminding one of the old dictum of the British Phil Commission on Palestine that "it is right against right". Said's observation that "you cannot defeat an entire people, however much violence you visit upon them" seems a perfect assessment of the futility of the strategy of random terrorism unleashed against Israeli citizens recently.
