Speaking up for TFs

五月 8, 2014

It is worth considering the pay of teaching fellows – frequently with PhDs, with a great deal of expertise in teaching and who carry at least some, if not all, of the responsibilities of curriculum design and development (“Labour of love: huge variation in GTA pay”, News, 24 April). Assuming that salaries for postdoctoral research assistants and early stage teaching fellows are around £30,000-32,000, and assuming that they work 37.5 hours a week, this would translate to a basic pay of £16.40 per hour (not including holiday pay).

Paying graduate teaching assistants more than £15 an hour would require paying teaching fellows more too.
