Support renaissance

五月 6, 2005

I was involved in the recent reputation audit of Glasgow University and would agree that it has suffered from a degree of complacency ("Glasgow hears its gloss is gone", April 29).

Increasing student expectations and the impending threat posed by better-funded English universities mean that there is no longer room to sit on withering laurels. To be fair, the university has recently embarked on a promising, reflective review. It acknowledges the important value of student support services and collaboration with other Scottish institutions. It is in students' interests to support such moves to prevent the worth of their Glasgow degree slipping into provincial mediocrity.
