Talking down teaching

五月 17, 2002

Frank Furedi claims to know what the Institute for Learning and Teaching thinks ("They sign on, turn up but fail to tune in", THES, May 3), although he is not a member.

We have more than 10,000 members, and it would be ridiculous to purport to identify a single viewpoint on a complex issue. He is right when he suggests that many members favour student-centred teaching, but wrong when he interprets the stance of our members as being about giving students an easy ride.

One might expect Furedi to base his comments on a knowledge of the organisation.
