The meeting of true minds - and bodies 1

六月 5, 2008

I shall be starting university in September and fully intend to have relationships with my fellow students and lecturers. It would be naive to think they would not become sexual ("Erotic pedagogy", 22 May). I want to get the utmost from my university experience. I can achieve the grades through hard work, encouraged by interactions with like-minded individuals passionate in the same subject areas.

Education beyond the classroom provides further opportunity to learn about oneself, evolve opinions and argument and broaden perspectives. Inevitably connections turn to close friendships when baring your thoughts, your soul. This is sometimes more intimate than the sharing of the body. There is nothing wrong with consenting adults taking it further.

It is restricting to think that resulting sexual relationships between students and academics are base and solely about the abuse of power. They can be healthy, respectful and nothing to be ashamed of, and more about the natural progression from an appreciation of an individual's mind to that of his or her body. Intelligence is sexy. It may not be considered wise but, with my wits about me, no policies shall sway me from acting upon my instincts.
