Vital lesson 1

四月 29, 2005

The article "Lecturers bored by lessons in teaching" (April 22) presents, at best, one view of postgraduate teaching courses. Selectivity is, of course, inherent in journalistic routines, but I was struck by the blanket generalisation that the news item implied.

I underwent such a course at the University of the West of England, Bristol. I, and my colleagues, found the workshops and other innovative modes of teaching and learning very useful. Having come to academia after more than 20 years in a related field, the course helped my transition to the new culture.
