Participate in THE’s and UNHCR’s higher education survey on opportunities for refugees

Survey closing 31st January 2025

Times Higher Education (THE) has partnered with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to produce the largest global mapping of higher education opportunities for refugees. This survey will allow us to collect the information needed to undertake this mapping exercise.

This mapping will serve as an essential piece of information for governments, relevant ministries, higher education institutions (HEI), and refugee and asylum seeker students to explore and access higher education pathways, and as a vital advocacy tool for raising awareness and solidarity for refugee and asylum seeker inclusion in higher education. This survey will collect data on refugee and asylum seeker enrolments, scholarship opportunities, and practices on empowering refugee and asylum seeker higher education and will support the UNHCR’s strategy to achieve 15% enrolment of refugees in higher education by 2030.

Please note that this survey may reach several persons within each institution. However, we need only one comprehensive answer per institution, which represents the perspective of the entire institution. Therefore, we kindly invite you to coordinate internally before replying to the survey. We advise you to consult with your colleagues to gather the necessary information before replying to the online questionnaire.

You can use this questionnaire in PDF format in order to collect all the necessary data prior to completing the online questionnaire. The questionnaire is also available in French, Arabic, German, Spanish, Turkish and Russian.

You will have the option to start the exercise and come back to complete it later. To do this select the 'save and continue later' option and follow the instructions. This will send you an email that contains a link to this survey and will allow you to continue from where you left off. You may forward this email to a colleague who will be able to continue on your behalf.

The survey is composed of the following sections:

  1. Institution information and profile
  2. Policies covering and services supporting refugee/asylum seeker students
  3. Data on applications, enrolments and outcomes for refugee/asylum seeker students
  4. Scholarship information for refugee/asylum seeker students

You will be asked at the start of sections 2-4 whether you would like to answer the questions. If you select 'Yes' then you will answer that section, if you select 'No' it will skip that section.

Thank you for your interest in this exercise.

Each One Take One (EOTO) Webinar Invitation

EOTO is a global solidarity movement to provide universities with the tools, networks and support they need to ensure refugees join and participate fully on campus, rebuild their lives through education, and develop essential skills and knowledge, wherever they are.

Participating in the mapping is an important first step for institutions to engage in this initiative. UNHCR is hosting 3 webinars covering different regions to explain the importance of participating in the mapping survey and to introduce EOTO.

The webinars will take place on November 6th, 13th and 14th and will be made available in multiple languages.
