UNIVERSITY OF BIRMINGHAM

Graham Upton's appointment as pro vice chancellor has been extended to July 31, 1998; Frances Young, Edward Cadbury professor and head of department of theology becomes dean of the faculty of arts from August 1; Graham Martin has been appointed head of the school of continuing studies.

UNIVERSITY OF HULL

Anthony Horsman, professor of physics applied to medicine and scientific director of the YCRC centre for magnetic resonance investigations, has been appointed dean of the postgraduate medical school.

WEST KENT COLLEGE

Barry McGilvray, formerly with the Further Education Funding Council, has been appointed director of finance; Ted Ulas, formerly with The Staff College, has been appointed director of personnel.

John Cater, chief executive of Edge Hill College of HE, will chair the teacher education group of the Standing Conference of Principals.

MERSEY PARTNERSHIP

Philip Love, vice chancellor of the University of Liverpool, has been appointed chairman of The Mersey Partnership, an alliance of the private and public sectors.

UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE

Duncan Robinson, director of the Yale Center for British Art, has been appointed director of the Fitzwilliam Museum.
