SCOTTISH HIGHER EDUCATION FUNDING COUNCIL
The following new members were announced by Raymond Robertson, education minister at the Scottish Office: Graeme Catto, dean of the faculty of medicine and medical sciences and professor of medicine and therapeutics at Aberdeen University, John Spence, vice principal elect, University of Strathclyde; Sheila McLean, professor of law and ethics on medicine at the University of Glasgow; Ian Sword, chairman of Inveresk Research International Ltd.
UNIVERSITY OF LONDON Graham Zellick, principal of Queen Mary and Westfield College, has been appointed vice chancellor, succeeding Andrew Rutherford on his retirement in August 1997.
Colin Dollery, dean of the Royal Postgraduate Medical School will continue as pro-vice-chancellor for medicine and dentistry for 1996/97.
ROYAL POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL SCHOOL Nick Wright, professor of histopathology at the RPMS, Hammersmith Hospital, has been appointed dean of the school from October 1, on the retirement of Colin Dollery.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMISSION for ENGLAND Malcolm Grant, professor of economics at the University of Cambridge, has been appointed chairman by the Secretary of State for the Environment. Robin Gray, freelance management consultant and former senior civil servant, has been appointed as a commissioner; and Adrian Stungo, director of corporate affairs, London Borough of Bromley, will take over as chief executive.
LIBRARY AND INFORMATION COMMISSION Margaret Haines, NHS library adviser at the Department of Health, will take up her duties as principal adviser at the end of October.
QUEEN MARGARET COLLEGE, EDINBURGH Joan Stringer, assistant principal at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen and executive dean for the faculty of health and food, has been appointed principal following the retirement of Donald Leach.
QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY, BELFAST Bernard Crossland returned to the campus on June 20, to give his name to new premises for the university's department of computer science.
