Praise for strike pay donation

六月 7, 2016

The call by Sally Hunt, general secretary of the University and College Union, for universities to donate strike pay for student bursaries should be applauded (“Sally Hunt: universities should ‘donate strike pay to bursaries”, News, 1 June). This is something that has been done at London Metropolitan University for many years, and I welcome the call for it to happen across the sector. Hunt’s point on the disparity in UCU membership between younger and older academics is also telling. It is sensible, progressive policies such as this that will help to win members back.
