Cambridge University has won a £1.5 million grant to establish a centre of excellence in stem-cell research. The £16.5 million centre, which will be directed by US scientist Roger Pederson, will develop stem-cell treatments for diabetes and diseases of the brain, including Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis. The £1.5 million grant came from the Medical Research Council. The rest is from the university and a private endowment.
