Neil Sorrell, a music lecturer at York University, has broken new ground by writing a composition solely for glass vessels - wine glasses, a vacuum flask, test tubes and other laboratory containers. Steve Moehr, a scientific glassblower at York, helped create the vessels.
Dr Sorrell wrote the work to accompany The Glass Man , a play based on a rare mental condition that makes sufferers think they are made of glass. The play, written by Dr Sorrell's brother Martin, a lecturer in French at Exeter University, can be heard until next Tuesday at www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/arts/afternoonplay.shtml
