Activists produce guide to sit-in demos

六月 25, 1999

Students from five London colleges are joining forces to produce a "Rough Guide to Occupation", giving activists in higher education institutions tips on staging sit-ins. The guide, produced by students at Goldsmiths College, the University of East London, University College London, London Guildhall University and Camberwell College of Arts, will be published on July 6. It will guide student demonstrators on which buildings to occupy and how to organise security, cope with the media, avoid legal pitfalls and build a long-term campaign. Sophie Bolt, general secretary of Goldsmiths College Student Union, said: "Tuition fees are going up and people are seeing no improvement in resources. We found this year the strength of feeling was overwhelming and we cannot see that diminishing."
