The newly published register of Lords' interests has revealed how much Universities UK head Baroness Warwick earns - £138,000.
The Labour peer gets £97,000 a year as chief executive of the vice-chancellors' body, £25,000 as a non-executive director of Lattice Group (a gas and telecoms infrastructure company) and £16,000 as a non-executive trustee of the USS Ltd, which runs the Universities Superannuation Scheme for lecturers.
If she wished, Baroness Warwick could claim House of Lords' expenses of up to £122 for an overnight stay in London, £61 a day for subsistence and £51 a day for secretarial assistance. She might also claim the generous 54.4p a mile petrol allowance (no doubt a historical throwback to the days when peers drove eight-litre Bentleys).
