Biobusiness initiative

十月 16, 1998

A competition aimed at helping bioscience students learn more about running their own business has been launched with backing from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.

Called the Biotechnology Young Entrepreneurs Scheme, the initiative begins with regional rounds, the winners of which will go on to a national final. As part of the competition, bioscience students will receive business training and be challenged to produce a business plan for an imaginary biotech firm with help from industry experts. The tutorials will cover financial, legal and commercial skills needed to establish a successful venture.

Eight undergraduate and eight postgraduate/postdoctoral teams of five scientists from universities and research institutes from around the UK will attend the regional workshops. Sponsors for the competition include Glaxo Wellcome, Welsh Development Agency and Zeneca.
