Universities are being asked to comment on the recommendation that the UK needs to train an extra 1,000 doctors a year. The Medical Workforce Standing Advisory Committee, chaired by Nottingham University vice-chancellor Sir Colin Campbell, last year proposed the 20 per cent increase. The recommendations were welcomed by the government. Comments should be sent by March 13 to Mr J. Ashe, Medical Workforce Planning Branch, Room 2N17, Quarry House, Quarry Hill, Leeds LS2 7UE.
