The European Commission's Enterprise and Industry DG has issued a call for tenders for a study on certain chemical substances used in toys.
The study has a twofold objective:
- to examine how the limit values for the bioavailability laid down in Annex II.II.3 of Directive 88/378/EEC on the safety of toys should be revised according to recent scientific knowledge and to examine whether other elements should be added to the list in that annex;
- to examine ways to address the chemical properties in toys intended for children under 36 months or intended to be put in the mouth.
