The European association for the promotion of sustainable local energy policies, Energie-Cités, with the support of the European Commission, has produced a CD-ROM containing 100 examples of good practice of renewable energy activities undertaken by towns and cities across Europe.
The CD-ROM is aimed at helping municipalities learn how to implement better renewable energy initiatives. As cities continue to grow, municipal councils need to consider introducing initiatives that promote the use of renewable energies. The good practice examples suggest that green alternatives, such as thermal solar energy and wind power are viable sources for energy and are capable of meeting the extensive electricity and heating requirements of urban areas.
The examples of good practice can be consulted either by topic or by city.
The Energie-Cités network extends to over 20 European countries, and includes participants from municipalities and inter-municipal structures, local energy management agencies, municipal companies and municipality groups.
