The news:
- Launch of a major European research project GRACE (Genomics to combat Resistance against Antibiotics in Community-acquired lower respiratory tract infections in Europe)
- Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) are leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. About 75% of all antibiotic prescriptions are used to treat respiratory tract infections and this extensive use contributes dramatically to rising resistance.
- The GRACE network aims at developing approaches to reduce inappropriate prescribing of antibiotics for such respiratory diseases, covering the whole range of disciplines from basic genomics to clinical application and cost-effectiveness analysis.
- Five SMEs are involved to help bringing results into actual products. These will then be tested in the clinical environment offered through GRACE.
The event:
A press conference will be organised at 12.30 at the Sheraton Brussels Airport hotel.
