CVCP should back, not attack, union action

十一月 29, 1996

MAY I express my anger at the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals' position on the industrial action taken by university staff, as expressed by Diana Warwick (THES, November 22).

If the CVCP thinks that staff action is "misdirected" what would its action be when things are directed "properly"? Presumably to sit on the sidelines and do nothing to stop the decay of higher education as it is taking place and while staff take issue with their MPs.

If the CVCP had any commitment to higher education then why did it not join the unions as they rallied in Parliament Square?

The only direct and effective action must be for employers and employees to tackle the government together.
