Derby University has designed a foundation degree for volunteer members of the St John Ambulance Brigade, the UK's major first-aid charity. The two-year course in voluntary sector management starts in September and is open to part-time or full-time study - it will be mainly work-based and will include a research project. Ken Cook, commander of Derbyshire St John Ambulance, said: 'It provides the perfect opportunity for members to transfer their skills into higher education qualifications'
