The British Library has failed to reach agreement with a private-sector consortium for the development of digital access to its collection. The consortium, proposed in 1997 as a private finance initiative, consisted of Dawson Holdings and The Stationery Office. David Inglis, the BL's digital library project director, said: "There remains the possibility of a series of narrower alliances with the private sector."
