The director of Aberdeen University's Centre for Irish and Scottish Studies, which in January won the largest single grant ever made by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, is taking a post at Edinburgh University. Tom Devine will assume the Sir William Fraser chair of Scottish history but will keep an Aberdeen link as professor of Irish and Scottish studies and associate director of the AHRC centre.
