The student experience was a hot topic at the UUK event, something the London School of Economics is keenly aware of. Last May, a senior lecturer in government told prospective students at an open day they might get better teaching at London Metropolitan University. The department now tells prospective students that its government department is "the best in the UK, without question". This claim has tickled other politics departments because the LSE had a 5 rating in the last research assessment exercise and 22 out of 24 for the Quality Assurance Agency, which make it one of the UK's worst-ranked politics departments.
